September 15, 2000 Olympic excitement has reached Alta School. Millie and Syd can contain themselves no more. They have hitched themselves to the fastest transportation they can find and are off to join in the festivities in Sydney. Since the Opening Ceremonies began at 7:00 p.m. yesterday, I wonder if they'll make it in time for the Closing Ceremonies?

Torty, Syd, & Millie
Take Off For Sydney!

Millie isn't this exciting! What speed we are
reaching! Wait Torty, you're going the wrong way!

Syd and Millie are tied to Torty the Tortoise. They made sure to have seatbelts. They are going to the Summer Olympics 2000 in Sydney, Australia. When they get to the Pacific Ocean, they are going to get on a boat. Syd and Millie may get a little scared in the boat. However how quick they get there is in debate. Torty was hungry and stopped for a snack.

Torty the Tortoise is going to enter the 200m race. Will they take a late entry on the United States team? If they had a skateboard they would get there faster.

Maybe Torty will enter in the high jump. If Torty wins, she will give her owner the trophy.

When they get there, Torty will ride a bike for the triathlon. She will need special protection for the swimming competition because she isn't a deep sea turtle.

Syd and Millie are debating which way to go.

Watch your elbow Syd!

For those of you who like to know the history of our Olympic athletes, here is some of the remarkable history of this racing tortoise. Torty may be 20 years old. We're not sure. She showed up across the street from where she now lives 16 years ago. They found out she was a tortoise from a teacher who was glad she hadn't been placed in water or she'd be dead. Torty is black, brown. and a little gold. Perhaps she'll come back with gold. Well here's hoping. Go Torty, Go!

Torty decides to do some serious training. There is no doubt about it. Torty demanded center stage today!

Weightlifting
Guys, I want out. Gotta get moving!
Would you mind turning off
the flash? This is annoying.

I'm shoving off. Think you can put a lid on my dreams? Forget it!

Allen drew a picture of Torty racing. Looks like Syd
and Millie are confused about which way they are going!

Gerardo drew an image of the racing tortoise as well.
