February 2001

Quesla is a small llama traveling with the Quest team. She traveled from Reedley, CA to join up with the team.

The Quest team's home office in downtown Minneapolis has been a very busy place these last few weeks. Getting ready for a Quest takes a lot of teamwork! We spent many days on the phone making plans. We bought film, videotape, a few new computers, and other supplies. We also checked over all our equipment to make sure that it's still working.

On top of all that, we wrote reports for this first week of the Quest. John, Nick, and I gave talks to teachers around the country about what MayaQuest will be like.

So, now that everything is ready, it's time for the packing to begin! Please look over our Packing List to make sure we have everything we need.

Every Wednesday in Team Update, I'll fill you in on where the team has traveled to now, whom we have met, and where we are heading next.

I'll see you in the Yucatán!

The Quest Team is double checking all their details for an awesome quest!

I arrived safely in Minneapolis, Minnosota to join up with the Quest team. What a zoo of activity as the team was gearing up for the trip, checking equipment, and getting reports up and online. I tried to stay out of the way and not get stepped on or left behind!

The students who are following my adventures have really been busy learning all they can about the Maya culture. They have also been learning about Ecuador, Zimbabwe, and South Africa as well. A lively exchange happened when El Popo erupted in Mexico.

It has made for lots of active collaboration and communication between the schools and teachers involved before the Quest has even begun.

I really feel extra special that the Quest team is allowing me to tag along on their trip! I packed real light for the journey. I did bring a few souveniors for the students the team will profile each Tuesday. I am so excited about seeing the Maya ruins! As a questing llama (Quesla), I know about the Andes and Incan empire. Later I will get to visit my homeland and then it will be off for more countries to visit and stories to gather.

Any school can follow along on my adventures and join in the fun. Just visit the Quesla eGroup and subscribe to join in the the colloboration. Teachers should be sure to introduce themselves and their classes.

As John Fox says, I'm diggin' it,

Quesla
