"American Anthology:
Patty Reed's Doll"
3 Wagon Trains Trekked Across United States
Destination Sutter's Fort, California

Reproduction of cover of "Yonder" painted by Kally Bloom
Many fascinating connections happened with thisunique HISTORIC project which takes a twist on a popular project "Travel Buddies." The journey began January, 5 1998. We had a wonderful starting activity. Three travel buddies traveled to over 30 schools from coast to coast. All meet at Sutter's Fort on May 23, 1998 (only one was late).
The project has culminated in the production and distribution of an original video featuring historic highlights from around the country orchestrated and narrated by students across the country. Many schools have placed their contributions on their web sites. Plans to publish parts of the anthology and former pioneer project with guidelines for designing and developing other anthologies are in process. To participate in future anthologies please contact either Cheryl Vitali or Vickie Bloom

Blizzard 1998
Blizzards aren't just in the past. Read real life accounts from the Ice Storms of 1998. Our project had an online "Blizzard" while the site was undergoing changes. Just like in the past, the project was buried to all but the project participants.
Journals from the Trail
Read excerpts from the journals of Alta's three travel buddies.
Traces of the Trail
See where buddies journeyed and view links to participating schools.
Trail 3
This is Vickie Bloom's telling of the adventure through the eyes of one travel buddy and the three unique events the class did during the course of the project.
West Carthage Elementary
Students at West Carthage visited the historic Erie Canal as part of their participation in the Patty Reed Project. Visit their site and see photos of the event they included in the project's video. Images are worth the time to download.
Pioneer Days at Cottonwood Elementary
Read how students at Cottonwood celebrated the project.Pioneer Stories
Read original pioneer stories from Finneytown, Ohio.
Benefits of Project
Read the perspective of students in Australia who didn't receive a buddy but participated in the project. It may change the way you think about Internet projects!
