Progressive Story
Our 1998-99 Internet explorations took off in September as students in Room 11 collaborated in a progressive story with classes around the world. The children had great fun writing Chapter 11 for the story and spent time after school and at lunch time to brainstorm and develop their wild and wacky chapter.
Read the Progressive Story which left everyone floundering in the Bermuda Triangle. What is the end to this mysterious tale?
Patty Reed's Dollis a unique American collaboration that formally concluded in May 1998. An original video was produced of the journey and distributed during the late fall of the year. A book has been drafted of this project (and others) which may be eventually formally published by Cheryl Vitali. School's interested in participating in any repeats of this project should contact Vickie Bloom.
Wildflowers of the World
Students continue to enjoy adding to the reports and collection that continues to bloom. Alta welcomes further contributions or links to other sites dedicated to wildflowers. Look for new reports as students draft them. The 1997-98 bloom was remarkable in California, many wonderful images are on the site and there are more to add.
International Fest
This project is devoted to celebration of international friendships. The purpose is to promote cultural awareness and actively encourage children to become "ambassadors" in promoting international peace and harmony.
The first International Fest was held on January 28, 1999. The next celebration is scheduled for the last week of February, 2000.
Arctic Challenge
Students in Room 11 have been following Jon Waterman's exciting adventures in the Northwest Territories. They have been learning about the Inuit, celebrated the returning of Nunavut (the Land) to the Inuit (the people) by the Canadian government on April 1, 1999. Students have been making fascinating connections between the project and other curriculum. This project is part of a collaborative effort with Adventure Online. Students did a collaborative comparative essay on the Inuit and Jackie Robinson. The collaboration was so exciting it is continuing in the 1999-2000 school year.

Travel Buddies
Students in Room 11 have sent out international travel buddies Fauna and Scotty and Sarah and Tuffy to other countries. They have also hosted Snuitje from Haarlem, the Netherlands and Rasmus Klump from Denmark.
The exchanges were so diverse, extensive, and fascinating that only highlights can be featured. Further adventures are happening in 1999-2000 and travel plans are made that will go through till the fall of 2000.
Musketeers
This is a special collaboration/mentorship of teachers around the world. The group began informally from dialogue begun in November, 1997. Please check on the site devoted to this group which serves as a springboard to their diverse award winning, international projects.
TENAN & TESAN
Mirror Site TENAN, Mirror Site TESAN
The Endangered Animals of the World & The Endangered Species and Nature
Students in Room 11 made contributions to these sites developed by Joan Goble and Rene de Vries (Muskateers). Many Muskateer schools share similar concerns and interests about preserving and protecting endangered species and natural wonders and resources around the world. Students did research on California Condors.
READ IN
Each May since their 1996 participation in the READ-IN, Alta has had their own Read-In. The day is devoted to reading and many guest readers are invited. Teachers often assume a character (or characters) for the day and a wonderful time is had by all. Each year there are surprises and often quite a few animals as guests (dogs, boa, goat, and calf came in 1999). Of course all of these "critters" help to illustrate favorite children's literature and offer unexpected surprises to the day! Principal, Jean Clemons, had a Harley Davidson as a prop along with leather jacket to help in the retelling of Princess Smartypants.
