Brown Fields

Brown Fields

Brown Fields
with trees standing in lines
waiting for the sun and rain
branches bare stiff

Still cold, the sun says,
"Wake up."
The trees push
little buds open
into pretty blossoms.
pink and white
everywhere with blue blue sky.

Brown fields
with green trees
green leaves and fruit
fruits that are
little hard ovals,
fruits that grow
growing big,
growing heavy, soft, and sweet.

Fruit that we eat.
Fruit that we pick
and sell and eat more.
Sticky fruit on our faces,
sticky on our hands
falling on the brown fields.

Brown fields
with trees of many colors
yellow, orange, gold, and brown
falling to the ground,
floating in the wind.
The trees have no leaves,
empty branches standing
in the cold brown fields.
