My name is David Potter. I am employed as Curriculum Coordinator
(Computing) at John Paul College in Brisbane Australia. A big hello to Gary
Stager from the staff at JPC who were there when he ran his sessions in
1994. Unfortunately, I wasn't at the College at the time, so Gary, I have
only seen your notes and heard of you from Adam Smith and other people.
The postings to this list have been of great interest to me over the last
few months and no doubt will continue to be. I am glad that LCSI now has a
web site. I will watch with great interest. I have also set up a
Microworlds page on our JPC home page. The URL is:
We are a school that has an extensive notebook computer program. All our
students from Year 5 (10 yrs of age) to Year 10 (15yrs of age) lease their
own Toshiba T1900 or T2130CS notebook computer and take to each class
throughout the entire school day. MicroWorlds is on every machine and all
students generate projects and use the logo language to facilitate learning
in curriculum areas. (Prior to Microworlds, Logowriter was the software of
choice).
Alain Tougas has been most helpful to me and has solved a number of problems
over the last twelve to eighteen months. Goodbye Alain and thank you.
Microworlds 2.0. Lucky Mac users. When will the Windows/DOS version be
developed? The last email I had from Alain suggested that it would be quite
some time as it hadn't reached the drawing board phase. MicroWorlds is the
centrepiece of our approach at JPC. We would very much like to continue to
use it with our Year 11 and 12 students (16 and 17 yrs of age) in 1997 and
beyond. But, we feel that without a wider scope in the use of Windows
resources (eg. sound and video files) our students will not respond
favourably after having used the software for a number of years.
I have many issues to talk about, ideas to share. I wish, in this mesaage,
to pass on a bouquet to this group of users and to begin to let you all know
who I am and that I have been listening (reading) attentively in the
background for a couple of months. No more hiding.
Cheers
David Potter
PS My email adress at the College is dpotter@jpc.qld.edu.au but I also
have my own account at the address in my signature file.
