I spoke to one of our county maths. advisors today about Roamer
jackets. She duly demonstrated one and said that an article
appeared in Child Ed. last year on the subject called Jim and the
Beanstalk or something like that. She says she has had some very
good sessions with KS1 children using them and thinks they have
considerable potential. The only problem would appear to be the
risk of dropping the Roamer if you try to pick it up by the jacket,
not a good move!
The alternative to Roamers demonstrated to us was a Pixie, quite
good and again with lots of potential for design projects since it
is a cuboid and actually comes with a net for converting it into a
bus. It is much smaller and suitable for table top work but I don't
think it's as cute as a Roamer, but that's just personal opinion.
Hope this is some help.
Hilary.
