We use a Valiant Roamer successfully with our KS1 children. I find it a good
introduction to LOGO but it also has many other uses in terms of routes,
angles of turn etc. Its use can also be made topic specific for those people
who like to derive maths from their topics, e.g. a route round a village for a
local study or mapping a route for a postman. The number of possibilities are
almost limitless. Our Roamer also has a useful booklet with activities in it
which I believe came with it. Actually ours is a photocopy of someone elses's
since the original went astray. I can get the title if you would find it
useful. I also have some Roamer activities of my own which have been trialled
with small groups of children.
Let me know if I can be of further help.
