Greetings from Portugal.
Being new in this list, here is a short introduction:
My name is Artur Gentil Nunes and I am a primary school teacher in Lisbon,
Portugal. I worked for 4 years in our national "computers in schools"
Project Minerva.
Now I work in a public school in Alges. The school is provided with some
equipment, like videos and some "outdated" computers, MS-Dos XT kind.
We have aplied for a intercultural project which hopefully will involve
telecomunications and exchange with schools from everywhere.
I also suport 2 private schools nearby, one (Cooperativa "A Torre",
Restelo) equiped with Macintosh LCII computers (one in each of the 5
classes), and also some old Dos and Apple IIc computers.
The work we do is mainly wordprocessing and Logo, with some drawing and
database projects too. We use Clarisworks and Logowriter. We are starting
in comms (Internet) next year.
The other school I work with is "Alfa-Beta" in Queijas, which is beggining
with their IT process, including teacher training, purchase of hardware and
software, the existing equipment beeing AT PC=B4s.
I am also planning to start in September/October work with kids in a
extracurricular, informal setting, a project which will join imaging
technology and computers, and publishing that in a Web page.
I myself work with Mac (Duo 230), being a user of Macintoshes since 1987.
My favourite plattform for educational settings is the Mac, although
teachers are not suported in this country, namely in the avaiability and
localization of the software, which is in my opinion essential with
children of this age (5-11). So maybe we=B4ll switch to Windows after all=8A=
A
pity.
I am 42, married ( wife is a paediatrician), with 2 daughters, 10 and 4
years old.
In my free time I like to travel, hear music and I am also a amateur
photographer.
