Brian, I agree with the general point. Give me a person (teacher) who understands inquiry and has read their Dewey-Kozol-Holt... and I can show them tech applications that let them teach better than before. And, I've seen teachers who believe in only setting problems that have right answers, who use Logo in unappealing ways. The interesting area is the gray one in between... But about the following: > P.S. In the newspaper just yesterday was a study about how much schools > are paying in hidden costs of technology, mainly repairs and upgrades, > and how that's affecting their commitments to other programs. Seymour > pooh-poohs this sort of thing by talking about how computers keep getting > cheaper, but right now, at least, I can see how progressive teachers might > well dislike even Logo when costs vs. benefits are taken into account. In my 16 years of teaching Logo and eight years of organizing an elementary school with about 150 computers, LogoWriter / Micro-Worlds has been the most used, most reliable and cheapest part of the budget. It is amazing how low the price has been. Although they're businesses and need to produce some profit, I think LCSI and Terrapin have been truly remarkable in holding down costs. --------------------------------------------------------------- Please post messages to the Logo forum to logo-l@gsn.org.
