If yes, will this facilitate the teaching? A while ago, while I used MicroWorlds 1.0, I thought maybe I could use a series of textboxes to hold Logo instructions and then wrote a simple interpreter that interprets (runs) the instructions in these textboxes one by one. A turtle in the shape of pointer would point to each textbox as each instruction is eveluated(MW's run command). Values of variables are shown on the screen as sliders or textboxes. The student can push a "step" button to cause the interpreter to execute one LOGO instruction, and the instruction pointer (a turtle) is pointed to the textbox containing the next LOGO instruction, and the interpreter pauses, waiting for the next "step" pushbutton command from the user. One thing I find a little bit strange is although we the youngsters a pretty real programming language (Logo), their development environment seems to be not as good as the "real" development environment. Kid's development environment should not be as complex as adult's. But I think some features (e.g. the sigle step feature, and the variable display panel) might be useful for youngsters also. Are these features provided by MW 2.0? BTW, I should mention that my son and I like MW very much. Their reference manual and "How-to" guide in MW 1.0 (I do not know much about 2.03) are very good.
