Yes, the ERRACT mechanism is a little flaky.  It's good for cases
in which you're expecting a particular error and know what to do
about it, or for saying
	make "erract [pause]
for interactive debugging.  Many other possibilities only work
some of the time.  It's on my list of things to figure out someday...
