LOGO-L> Books for teaching kids programming

I have a 12 year old son whose interest in computers is pretty intense and I'd
like to encourage him to do something beyond word processing and playing
games.
Can anyone recommend a good book for someone his age that would get him started
learning to program? (I'm a programmer so you can assume that I would be
helping him.)

When we looked a year or so ago, we found a few, old (early 1980's) books on
Logo at the library but they were pretty limited. What I'm looking for is
something that might be used as curriculum in a Jr. High/High School class -
complete with projects to do etc.

The language - I'd prefer C++ or Java but if the materials were good that would
be more important than which language we were using.

Anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks

Jim Young
