Hello All, I have just joined this list. Although I am not a educator, I am a product of logo being tought in the schools. I thought I would share my story with you, please bear with me. :) I started with logo when I was in kindergarden, although I wasn't quite sure of what I was doing, all I knew was I was making pretty picture, and making this little triangle move around the screen. Latter I changed schools, and didn't have much experience with logo, until I changed schools again in 5th grade. I was introduced to LCSI's LogoWriter for Apple II's, and I fell in love all over again. In sixth grade I entered the ICPSC (International Computer Problem Solving Competition), and took first in my state (Minnesota), and fifth in the world. I was so excited. Unfortunely when I went to high school, there was very little programming being done, and the ICPSC was cancelled in Minnesota due to lack of funds. In 11th and 12th grade I took classes in C at the University of Minnesota. Although I like C still, my first true love will always be LogoWriter. So now that I am a jr in college, I have been looking around for my long lost friend, Logo. After reading through 100 some messages in comp.lang.logo I realized a lot has changed. I have a few questions. 1) Is there a logo compiler, so as to speed things up? (I don't think there is, otherwise I think it would've been mentioned in the factorial thread.) 2) From what I see there are two main stand alone version, UCB, and MicroWorlds, are there any others? What platforms are they for? Are any of these still being updated? (I see that MW is.) Thanks very much, and I look forward to many great conversations.
