>The next day they were asked to draw the train with >their instant-Logo. As it happened, the kindergarten teacher forgot to >tell the kids what key draws a circle. So the kids drew, I didn't >believe my eyes, square wheels! They simply made the best of their >knowledge. > >Unnecessary to say that I myself could never come to such a brilliant >solution. Fantastic! This goes back to a favorite line from Einstein...who had a great affinity for children, by the way... "Imagination is more powerful than knowledge." Another antecdote comes to mind...from a young lady in one of my early classes. TO HOUSE REPEAT 4 [FD 50 RT 90] FD 50 RT 30 REPEAT 3 [FD 50 RT 120] END This was really rather boring, so she typed HOUSE again...and again. Then she came up with... REPEAT 12 [HOUSE] Now she was getting somewhere! A few minutes later she had created her own sportscar. It was hysterical when the other kids turned to see what she was doing... "Hey, how'd you do that?" I would dearly love to have Todd Oppenheimer (Atlantic Monthly writer) and some of the other Logo/computer critics in the classroom at such a time. Unbridled imagination is, indeed, so much more power than knowledge in a straightjacket.
