 One soccer ball shape consists of pentagons surrounded by hexagons. You can 
take the centre of all these pentagon and hexagon shapes and by drawing lines 
to the vertices turn the whole lot into triangles to create a geodesic 
structure.

Peterson's book discusses how these structures are linked together in some 
detail (pp. 52-3)
