Hi fellow teachers, My name is Ky-Lee and I am a Bachelor of Education (Honours) student at UTS in Sydney. My thesis is on using Drama with ESL students as a strategy in the mainstream classroom to boost their confidence to use language. If you have any ideas or questions please feel free to write (I am actually finding it difficult to find 'Confidence Questionairres' and checklists for observations if anyone has any ideas!) At the moment I am doing a Computer Mediated Learning course and am absolutely fascinated with logo and what it can do- although I am yet to master it! I have been exploring it for only a few days so I am still quite confused by it but I'm sure that with perserverence I will learn more. I do have a few questions/issues which I would like to pose: ~ When I was first told to explore the program, I sat looking at the turtle and moved it around the screen by dragging my mouse and clicked on a few of the options on the tool bar but didn't know what it all meant. I had to refer to the manual to figure out how to program the turtle. How did you learn how to use it? ~ How do primary children learn how to use it in the classroom? ~ We have been discussing the idea of the teacher being a co-learner in the classroom instead of a 'teacher' who is a transmitter of knowledge. What do you think of this idea? ~ How popular is logo in schools (in Australia)? This is the first time I have heard of it and I have taught in quite a few schools. ~ How would you approach teaching mathematics using logo? If you could answer these questions I would be most grateful. I look forward to hearing from you soon.
