Moving a mobile robot (turtle) about in three dimensional space is
not a trivial intermediate-technology type of problem (as evidence see
the difficulties with the Mars rover). Why should it be let go. The
problems to be solved are not all computer type problems, but they are
real, difficult, and important. If all one wishes to teach is
programming then their is no role for robots and turtles. But is one
wishes to teach mechanics, electronics, information processing and
transmission, sensor function, and scientific method, Turtles might well
be far more important. Of course, then Logo becomes only a piece of the
whole.
