I recently purchased a book by Jon Millington called Curve Stitching with a subtitle The art of sewing beautiful mathematical patterns. The ISBN is 0-906212-65-0 and it cost $19.95. The publisher is Tarquin Publications Norfolk England. The first edition was published in 1989, with a second edition in 1996. It's a lovely book. It has beautiful, clear, colored illustrations. It gives directions for creating string art by hand, gives a mathematical description as well as a color illustration of designs based on parabolas and circles to a six-cusped hypocycloid. It has 35 programs in qbasic (easily converted to Logo) and proofs and demonstrations for why curve stitching creates these patterns. It even has some black & white photos of 3-D sculptures by Naum Gabo, Antoine Pevsner, Henry Moore and Barbara Hepworth. I highly recommend it to anyone interested in string art.
