             MAIN THEME: "Learning and Exploring with Logo"

EUROLOGO is a biennial conference which focuses on educational
applications of Logo and other exploratory computer tools used in the
classroom at all age-levels of education.

The host country:
----------------
The 1101 years old Hungary is ready to provide a hearty welcome to
participants arriving from European countries and other parts of the
world. The date was chosen for the conference aiming to offer the
participants an opportunity to view some of the events around 20th
August, national day celebration. The organisers aim to hold the Third
National Logo Conference HUNGAROLOGO 97 together with EUROLOGO 97,
with some common events. This provides an excellent opportunity for
national educators and policy makers to meet with those of other
countries, giving a chance to get to know each other and exchange
ideas. The language of EUROLOGO 97 is English.

Venue:

The House of Technology, the headquarters of the Federation for
Technological and Scientific Societies is located in the heart of
Budapest, on the bank of the Danube, just opposite the building of the
Parliament, providing excellent facilities for the event.

Submissions and their review:
A lot of papers have been submitted, and the international scientific
committee has reviewed them thoroughly. Presentations that have been
chosen are about 36 papers, 9 workshops, 9 demonstrations and 9
posters.

Some extra fun:
We are having a Logo Cartoon Competition as well, where we are
awaiting any funny cartoon, proverb, program, etc. in connection to
Logo. Finals will be held on spot.

Welcome Party
This is a great chance to meet friends - old and new - and will be
held in the conference building in the form of a buffet reception.
>From the building delegates can enjoy the fireworks closing the
National Celebration Day events.

Conference Excursion with dinner
A half-day trip at Budapest and along the River Danube including a
visit to historic towns. Szentendre is a unique artists' town with its
cobble stoned squares, picturesque old streets and 18th century town
houses, including the famous Margit Kovacs Ceramics Museum.

Accommodation:
-------------

The conference will be held during the summer holiday and a lot of
events (related to the National Celebration Day, 20th August) will
take place -- simultaneously with our event -- in Budapest. Finding
hotel rooms for this period might be very difficult for guests.
Therefore, the Conference Secretariat has reserved a contingent of
hotel rooms in hotels of different price categories - at a special
conference rate - for the conference delegates and accompanying
persons. All the hotel rates include breakfast, VAT, and local tax. It
is highly recommended that the delegates take this into serious
consideration when they send in their accommodation requirements and
deposit. All the hotel reservations have to be indicated on the
Registration Form. Please be sure to indicate the precise date of
arrival and departure, the number of the nights you plan to stay in
the hotel. 

1. Hotel Gellert ***
Hotel Gellert for nearly eighty years has been welcoming guests from
virtually all parts of the world. The Hotel, a stately edifice
situated alongside the Danube and surrounded by the beautiful parks of
Gellert Hill is close to the Budapest city centre. Single room

2. City Pension Ring***
The City Pension Ring is located on the Grand Boulevard in the busy
centre of the capital. The pension will be a hit for those who like
the bustle and the teeming life of a metropolis, the proximity of
bright shops and excellent transport facilities. Single room        65
USD/person/night Double room        40 USD/person/night

3. City Pension Matyas***
The pension provides the comfort of a 3-star hotel. It can be found in
the building of the famous Matyas Cellar restaurant located right in
the heart of Budapest approximately 50 metres from the pedestrian zone
and Vaci street. Single room        72 USD/person/night Double room   
    45 USD/person/night

We highly recommend that you extend your stay in Hungary. City Pension
Ring and City Pension Matyas are heartily welcome guests for longer
stay. Half-board pension can be ordered. 

4. Hotel Corvin***
The 3-star hotel is located in the centre of Budapest in a quiet
surrounding. Its restaurant offers both Hungarian and international
cuisine specialities. Single room        65 USD/person/night Double

5. Hotel Central***
Hotel Central is located in the diplomatic district of Budapest, in
the close vicinity of one of the most notable sights and the
entertainment center of the capital, the City Park (Zoo, Circus,
Museums, medical baths) Single room        60 USD/person/night Double

6. Youth Hostel Korosi Csoma**
The Hostel provides 3-bedded rooms with bathroom. It is located in the
Buda-side of the capital. The Conference Venue can be reached by bus
and underground in 30 minutes. 3-bedded room      7 USD/person/night

7. Youth Hostel Griff**
The Hostel is situated just next to Hotel Griff in a peaceful and
quiet area, where you can enjoy fresh air. It is 10 minutes' bus ride
or tram ride from downtown.  Double room        12 USD/person/night

HOLIDAY PROGRAMMES:
------------------

Pre-conference tours:
Western -Hungary
Refreshment and a short sightseeing in the baroque center of Gyor. In
Fertod visiting the Eszterhazy Palace which was built in 1760, with
some Louis XIV. Stylistic tendencies. Overnight in Sopron which is the
only Hungarian city where old buildings have remained in almost
perfect condition. Places to visit: Castle Tower, Fire Tower, several
museums. Lunch. In Sarvar, the valuable collection of the Nadasdi
Museum and the castle gardens (arboretum).

Post-conference tours:
Lake Balaton
Participants are going to visit the natural beauty and cities of
historical interests around Lake Balaton. The tour starts with a visit
at Tac where the ruins of an old Roman city (Gorsium) an be seen.
After that Veszprem, once called the city of Queens, the cultural
centre of the Northern Balaton region will be visited. Lunch at Band.
In the afternoon the group will visit the Chinaware Factory and Museum
in Herend. Dinner and overnight in Balatonfured. On the second day a
short sightseeing visit in Balatonfured and then on the
Tihany-Peninsula with its 900 year old abbey and a most beautiful view
over the lake. Lunch at Tihany. In the afternoon guests will
participate in a wine-tasting event at Badacsony. Return to Budapest
in the evening. 

All the excursions are organised with at least 15 participants. Please
indicate your intention on the Registration Form and we will send you
detailed information.

Method of payment
All payments are requested in USD. Payments (all the registration
fees, the one night hotel deposit, the charges of excursions) should
be made  until 10th, May. You can use any of the following methods:

1.    Credit card - Visa, Eurocard or Mastercard - please fill in the
      authorisation in the Registration Form.

2.    Bank transfer to the account of the conference
      Hungarian Credit Bank

3.    Bank cheque made payable to the Conference Secretariat. 

If your payment has not been received before the conference and no
proof of transfer can be provided, on-site payment will be requested.
The on-site payment will be refunded as soon as the transferred amount
is received. To cover the rest of the charges we accept cash, cheques,
and credit cards on the spot.

Cancellation
A written notification must be sent to the Conference Secretariat.
Refunds on registration are as follows: Before 1 July:      30 USD
handling fee will be deducted 1-21 July:          50% of the total fee
will be deducted After 21 July:      no refund
