In-Reply-To: <338C9DCF.16F9@icon-stl.net> Sure. Piaget proposed two processes that took place when people were faced with new knowledge. Firstly, they could try and fit it into their existing conceptual framework - assimilation. This is fine if there is no contradiction between the new concepts and the old. However, sometimes new knowledge that is incompatible with existing conceptual frameworks is assimilated to those frameworks. This sets up a tension. Learning takes place when the tension leeds to a change of conceptual framework to one which better fits the new knowledge. This is accommodation. I argue that much computer based learning is assimilative. I.e. is fitted into the conceptual frameworks we developed for (inactive) pencil and paper media.
