Given that you would not argue (I hope!) for discontinuity between mentally handicapped kids and the most able, it follows that the fundamental teaching approach used for the one applies throughout. I guide my kids to safety from my knowledge of dangers. The greatest danger in the use of computers in education is in the assimilation of its capabilities to notions founded in pencil and paper representation (Piaget). It follows that it is my role as a teacher to ensure, as far as possible, that I am not teaching assimilative concepts to the next generation. It is my imperative to *provide a context* that will, in my opinion, best help them to accommodate to the new capability we have devised for ourselves (research done on accommodation by Manchester University a long time ago). This, in principle, is what I do when guiding those I teach through the perils of the world to maximum independence.
