LOGO-L> Calculation Speed

MHELHEFNY@FRCU.EUN.EG writes:
By the way the UCBLOGO although more advanced than the old IBM Logo
it is much slower in doing mathematical calculations.

Brian Harvey <bh@cs.berkeley.edu> answeres:
Yeah, I know. I don't think it's actually the calculations that are
slower; it's the interpretation process.

To be fair to UCBLogo it has to be said that the it performs
calculations with (a fixed number of) 15 meaningful digits.

LCSI PCLogo had a variable precision (set by SETPRECISION primitive),
with a default of 10 meaningful digits. The higher the precision - the
more time calculation took.

It would be wise to compare the speeds of these two Logos when set for
the save level of precision.

BTW: The late LCSI PCLogo could perform caculations with precisions from
5 up to 1000 meaningful digits!!
