setpos is a Cartesian primitive and relattes to a representational 
framework not a physical model. 

One approach might be to write a suitable representation of the physical 
model in Logo. This data structure could contain a variable which was 
updated according to the reading of the angle sensor. This would allow 
your pupils to set a position relative to the current one. This, I 
believe, avoids back-tracking. If I have time I will try it out over the 
hols.
