I have just signed onto the logo-l list. Here's a little about me and my
interests in Logo.
I am a parent of a third grader and a sixth grader in public school in
western Massachusetts. We have a wonderful computer lab and program in
the junior high and are building one in the high school. EAch of the four
elementary schools has a lab with 10 computers but there is not a
computer/tech teacher full or part time in any of the schools - therefore
each class is dependent on the interest and ability of the teacher from
year to year supplemented by parent volunteers - of which I am one of a
handful. Our lab has PCs with Logowriter (Novell 2.2), Writing and
Publishing and Linkway (we are getting Superlinkway soon we hope). There
is no computer curriculum in the school now - it is going to be written
next year (we hope).
I am not a trained teacher but love fooling around on the computers and
being in the classroom. I have been teaching Logo, by the seat of my
pants, to fifth graders for two years and third graders also this year.
Another parent and I are trying to organize our support materials and put
together some kind of guidelines to make it easier for us and other
teachers and to deal with classes with many levels of ability. Some of
the upper grade kids take Logo in summer school also. We have activity
cards for Apple (they are mostly useful). We are thinking of trying to
put together an activity box a la SRA with 4-5 levels with 4-6 activities
keyed to each level.
What do you think? Has this been done? Help help help!!!
