LOGO-L> Re: MSWLogo installs

The ".exe" file you got off http://www.softronix.com/logo is a self
extracting "ZIP" file. The kits from http://www.softronix.com have quite
a few nice features added and bugs fixed. All his examples should work
fine.

Copy the kit from the web site (or the CD) to a temporary directory and
RUN it in a DOS window as follows:

C:\> mkdir logokit
C:\> copy c:\WHEREEVERYOUPUTTHEFILE\msw16b62.exe c:\logokit
C:\> cd logokit
C:\LOGOKIT\> msw16b62

<now you get ANOTHER self extracting ZIP file (MSWLOGO.EXE) but you also
get a README.TXT file that explains the next step>

C:\LOGOKIT> mswlogo

<now you get a "SETUP.EXE" file that you can run from Windows File
Manager (or Program Manager Run Menu) to install it>. Just double
click on SETUP.EXE from File Manager.

After your done installing you can delete all the files
in LOGOKIT but save the original file you downloaded from
www.softronix.com.
(msw16b62.exe). Don't install MSWLogo into the LOGOKIT directory
(the default directory is usually fine). The LOGOKIT directory is just
temporarily needed.

This double unpacking should of been done already on the CD
so that you could just run SETUP but it was mistakenly not done.
The self extracting "ZIP" for the 32bit version does the steps
above magically for you and the author of the book did not realize
the 16bit kits were not as smart at installing as the 32bit kits.

The reason for the "double" unpacking is people download it
and run it from file manager. And it unpacks itself. If it was
just a single unpack it would dump a whole bunch of files into a
unknown directory. The "double" unpack limits the first unpacking
to 2 files (Another file to unpack (MSWLOGO.EXE) and directions on how
to proceed in README.TXT).

If you need to make a normal "setup" floppy, here is how.

See the step above where I ran "mswlogo" to do the second unpack.
Before you do that step do this instead.

Put a formatted floppy in the drive.
C:\LOGOKIT\> A:
A:\> C:\LOGOKIT\MSWLOGO

This will do the second unpack directly to the floppy.
Then you can use the normal RUN A:\SETUP from Windows
to install it.

You can change the floppy and do it again and again to
make as many floppies as you want.

This is EXACTLY how I make floppies that are requested by
Postal mail (see release notes on www.softronix.com/logo).

Let me know how it goes I read my mail frequently.
