I have been 'lurking' on your list for some time now and have declined to introduce myself for some reason, probably because I am not actually using LOGO at the moment. I am so excited (and distracted) by the possibilities of my new computer and internet connection that I can't settle down and get absorbed in LOGO again, but I am really enjoying reading your letters. The recent discussion about behaviourism and constructivism (constructionism?) has prompted me to write because it is so refreshing. I read Bill Kerr's article on his web page, too, and found it exremely interesting. I first fell in love with LOGO when I was training to be a teacher some thirteen years ago. I made a special study of the language and the way children learn best. Over the years I have used LOGO with children in schools to good effect but have never been able to regain my initial, idealistic enthusiasm. The lack of response from other, overworked, teachers may have something to do with it and the general feeling of pressure and threat in UK schools didn't help. I now teach my twelve year old son at home so really it is an ideal time for him and me to take up the LOGO challenge again.
